Why We’re Not Having a Black Friday Sale

If your inbox looks anything like ours does, it’s filling up with offers for Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. Everyone is trying to one up each other. It’s the arms race of discounts.

And we are sorry to disappoint you, but we’re not taking part. When we launched Mail Order Mystery two years ago, we decided to set a fair price for our mysteries and stick to it. Who doesn’t hate buying something online only to realize that the price has been inflated just so there can be endless “sales” and discount codes?

We know a Mail Order Mystery isn’t cheap, but it’s an immersive, highly engaging story experience that contains letters, documents, objects and keepsakes. There are six installments in each mystery and the letters are all personally addressed to kids from the characters in the story. There are several objects in each mystery (necklaces with cipher clues etched into them, keys, magnifying cards, invisible ink pens, a magazine, a spy handbook) and many of the items are hand-fabricated (wax seals, aged maps, "microdots" behind postage stamps). Finally, depending on the mystery, the final installment contains a unique memento for kids to cherish: a locked wooden box of pirate treasurea combination safe cleverly disguised as a dictionary or a beautiful hardcover fairy tale book.

If you really, really, want a discount, we do send out codes for $5 off, a few times a year, exclusively to our mailing list subscribers. But we won’t be sending the next one out until after the holidays.

So if you want to give the gift of mystery this holiday season, go ahead and order a Mail Order Mystery today. We promise, you won’t have to worry about missing out on any big Black Friday/Cyber Monday/Pre Christmas/Boxing Day sales. You’ll know you paid the same price we charge almost every other day of the year. And best of all you’ll be giving the gift of intrigue, mystery and adventure to a child you love.
