How It Works

Step 1:

Choose your mystery

We've got five different mysteries for kids 6+. Search for long lost treasure, send your kids to spy school, go on a noble mission, help detectives crack a case involving bigfoot or travel through time. 

Step 2:

Choose your delivery style

Option A: The Weekly Reveal. Six installments, mailed once a week for six weeks. You pick the date we mail the first letter. Just remember that letter mail doesn't have tracking and there can be postal delays.

Option B: The All-In-One Box. All six installments ship together in one package. You get exactly the same mystery as if you get the letters mailed weekly. The letters are still personalized and addressed to the child receiving the mystery - we just send them all together in a single package with tracking. It means that you don't have to worry about letters getting delayed in the mail and you can do the mystery as fast or slow as you want.

Step 3:

Personalize the magic

Enter the child's name when you place your order. They are the hero of the story. We personalize all the dispatches, missions and different elements of the mystery, so kids feel like they're part of the story. 

Step 4:

Crack the case!

Kids receive cool objects and curious letters from knights, trolls, pirates, spies, and more! There are secret codes to decipher and clues to solve. Each mystery which concludes with a special keepsake they'll cherish long after the experience is finished.

Better than video games

My daughter enjoyed the Spies, Lies and Serious Bad Guys mystery over the summer. She knew when to expect the next letter and would run to the mailbox to check for it. She is a complete video game addict, but opening her envelope to solve puzzles took priority when they arrived. She was only frustrated by one envelope, and was so excited when the final letter arrived and she could solve the mystery. She loves the distraction safe book and carries it around with her sometimes.

Our family LOVED this!

I ordered this for my 9 year old twins and I think I had as much fun with it as they did. Honestly, they suspected it was 'set up' pretty early on but that didn't take away from the excitement at all. What age is this for?

We design our mysteries for kids 8+, but with help with reading and clues some are good for kids age 6 or 7. Our "Escape the Master Loop" mystery is perfect to do as a group that can include teens and adults.

What exactly do I get in a mystery experience?

Mail Order Mysteries are stories that are told through a series of clues, documents and letters. The letters are written to kids from the characters, which means that kids are directly involved in the story. Each mailing also contains documents or objects relating to a mysterious event that you will come to understand as the story unfolds. Depending on the mystery you could receive top secret dossiers, newspaper clippings, postcards, maps, keys, necklaces and so on.

Can siblings share a mystery?

Absolutely! Lots of kids like to work together to crack the case. Just keep in mind that there are one-of-a-kind objects that are part of each mystery and those will need to be shared.

What's the perfect "first mystery" to try out?

It really depends on how old the  kid is and what they're interested in. If you're not sure where to start, we put together this guide: Help Choose a Mystery.

How is the mystery sent out?

Each mystery has six installments. You can have them packaged up together and delivered "All in One Box" which allows you to do the mystery at your own pace. Or you can select "Send Weekly" and we'll mail one installment a week for six weeks. You get exactly the same mystery no matter which delivery option you choose. With "All in One Box" all of the envelopes are personalized with the child's name and address, so you can still sneak them into the mailbox for your kid to find. If you choose "Send Weekly"  keep in mind that each installment is being sent letter mail with no tracking information and the speed at which letters move through the postal system is not precise, so delivery times can vary. If you are worried about mail delays, "All in One Box" is your best bet.

How long does shipping take?

All of our mysteries are personalized and assembled by hand, so it takes some time to prepare each experience. If you choose to have your letters mailed weekly, you pick the date for us to mail the first letter and it usually takes 5-10 business days for the first letter to arrive. And remember, the date you pick is the date we mail the first letter, not the date the letter arrives. The postal system can work in mysterious ways, so please be patient. 

If you choose to have all the installments in your mystery shipped "All in One Box" you should receive your mystery 5-10 days after placing your order. For "All in One Box" orders we also offer an express shipping service for customers who want to receive their mystery more quickly.

What if we're going on vacation?

A Mail Order Mystery is the perfect activity to do on a vacation, holiday with family or road trip. Just order "All in One Box" delivery and get it delivered to your home before you leave so that you can bring it with you.

Is this a subscription where I keep getting charged if I forget to cancel?

Absolutely not! All of our mystery experiences are one time purchases. You pay once for all six installments of each mystery. There is never any recurring billing.

Spies, Lies and Serious Bad Guys contains complex ciphers and clues within clues; it is challenging enough that we get messages from adults who are stumped, and younger kids may need help along the way. This mystery begins with an acceptance letter to a top-secret spy school, but quickly turns into in a madcap mission to find a missing spy and stop an evil villain. Kids receive plenty of gadgets along the way including a very cool safe disguised as a book that they can only open once they crack a secret code.

The Case of the Missing Bigfoot is a whodunnit that takes place in an old mansion not far from where you live. When the contents of a safe at the mansion go missing, the kid receiving the mystery is called in to help solve the case. For kids who are into hidden animals like Bigfoot, Yeti and the Loch Ness Monster, there is a lot to discover about cryptozoology. We recommend this mystery for kids age 9+ because it is elaborate and involves quite a bit of reading.
