Our Spy School Grads Think Outside the Box!
Summer is just around the corner and (most) kids are looking forward to the end of school. But here at Mail Order Mystery we are accepting applications to a different kind of school. It’s a school that all kids will love, even in the summer: spy school! For the last year and half junior agents around the world have undergone their spy training at our S.H.O.E. Academy (Secret Headquarters of Espionage). After completing a series of top secret missions, cracking ciphers and solving some tricky clues, these Jr. agents graduate spy school with their own top secret keepsake and their very own...

The Best Plans Are Mysterious Plans
The older our kids get the more jealous we get of their summer camp options: behind-the-scenes at the museum, improv comedy, sailing, space camp… you name it they can do it. The problem is that booking these camps is like a competitive sport, and we are, at best, passable at it. Just a few weeks ago we tried to book a camp that was full - and it was more than five months out. Five months! What the heck?!If you’ve got some gaps in your summer calendar or if you like to leave a few - or a lot -...

We ❤ the Earth
Sunday, April 22 is Earth Day. We celebrate Earth day every year by saying “Hey it’s Earth Day”, and then we go about our usual weekend activities. And then every year we say, shouldn’t we be doing more? And the answer is yes, of course. We should all be doing more. All the time. But what? There is so much to do. It’s like when the kids’ rooms get so messy that they actually don’t know where to start, and you have to sit there with them and say “Ok, put away the Lego. Now pick up the books.” But with...

Here’s Hopping for the Perfect Easter Gift
Easter is a vexing time for gifts. Like all holidays, it requires planning. You need to come up with candy and gifts, and not just any gifts, but small gifts that fit inside an Easter basket. You can get bigger gifts, of course. You can go the scavenger hunt route and plant an elaborate series of clues that lead to the big-ticket item hidden in the broom closet (a plan which will be foiled if your clues get discovered during the egg-hunt). You can also wrap the bigger presents and put the basket next to them or on top. But...

For spring break: Get us to ship all your installments at once
Normally when you order a Mail Order Mystery we send the installments out once a week for six weeks. But for spring break we can send all of your installments out at once in a single box. Then when the kids say “I’m bored”, or you say “get off those screens and find something to do”, you can slip another clue into the mailbox. And your Junior Agents, Treasure-Hunters and Noble Oath-Swearers can spend their spring break putting their heads together to solve ciphers and clues, catching the plotting villains and joining forces with dragons and trolls. Just place your...

So What’s the Plan for Spring Break?
Like a lot of parents, we like to give advice. Like a lot of parents, we don’t like to take advice. So maybe that’s why we never take our own advice when it comes to spring break. Every year our advice goes like this: “Spring break is coming! Make a plan or you’ll be sorry!” And then spring break comes around, we don’t have a plan and we are plenty sorry. We are not sure why that is. We have learned our lesson when it comes to summer camps. It only took one year of trying to book camps too late...
